Mahih is a large town around 2 days travel up river from Shallal. It is the point where several of the river Masdar’s tributaries join the main river, and so is an oasis of fertile land in the surrounding desert.
The town covers a huge area, the vast majority of which is devoted to food production. The roughly walled town is more of an oversized abbey, with food production taking on a religious significance for the people. It is a town of pastoral bliss, and most adventurers find the place unsettling due to its lack of conflict, and commune-like society.
The town is technically free, and governed by the ‘Abbot’, but due to its importance to Shallal downriver it is effectively under the larger city’s control. It is not an easy relationship, but both places are aware that they could not survive without the other.
